Dallas Ponders

I wonder what happened to Denver?

My back is acting up again. I don't know when I'll get back to working out. Worst time as well. Winter...we all gain weight in the winter.

I guess I'll just be Spinning for awhile

Day 45.3: Denver Bumps Biceps to Thursday

No real explanation. Just life happening!

Dallas - ???

Glad to see Denver is back at it. My back is acting up a little bit. I'm hoping to get in to the Doc at the end of the week. Hopefully I'll be back at it next Monday.

Day 44.3: Denver Pushes Play (& Pounds Plyo!)

Yeah, I was pumped for this. Somehow the lingering cold effects aren't bothering me too much. I did have to push "Pause" as well as play a few times.

My heart rate is back up this week, not sure what the deal is there. I'll monitor it over the rest of this week and see if I can figure out why.

Day 43.3: Denver's Chest (Shoulders & Tricep) Challenge!

First of all there is a small glitch in my WorkoutSoft program. It keeps erasing my weight data for seveeal exercises (including Slo-Mo throw and the Tricep exercises I can never remember what I start at. Annoying, but in the grand scheme of things, not worth getting upset over.

I have been feeling lousy and have had no appetite. I made myself eat a Peanut Butter on Whole Wheat Sandwich and an hour later I got going. Started off feeling woozy, thinking it was going to be a rough one, but it actually made me feel much better. I got some good weights (some up to 30 pounds) and even though I didn't see across the board improvement (I had a rough ending to last week and the sickness is still weakening me) I did okay.

Day 42.3: Denver's Sunday Stretch

In preparation for kickstarting my unhealthy body, I am stretching before the Ranger game today.

Day 41.3: Denver Taking Weekend Off to Recover

I want to start the week off strong. But I'm worried as I still have this cold. Don't think it is the Swine Flu, but I'm pretty week.

Day 40.3: Denver's Sick. May workout tonight.

This thing is not going away and I'm not sure working out is helping me.

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Day 39.3: Denver May or May Not Do Plyo...

Stay Tuned...

Dallas Checks back in

Well I still have not been 100% cleared to jump back in. I have hopped on my spin bike a few times. I'm in a hotel this week and just came up from the workout room. Their bike sucks.

Day 38.3: Denver Buys Tickets to the Gun Show!

Well, not really, but it was a great workout.

I love it when you struggle through one exercise the previous week and then you have no problem the next. It's the only way you can really see progress during the early parts of this stage (and the previous one). I feel good.

I'm not eating well and I'm blowing off Ab-Ripper. I was going to do it tonight, but I ate about two hours before working out and it wouldn't have been pretty if I had attempted it. It was hard enough doing lawnmowers (I felt the heartburn during that one).

Anyway, hopefully Dallas will be back soon.

Day 37.3: Denver's Pushes Plyo ToThursday

I know. Cold got the better of me. Won't happen again, at least until the next time!

Monday, October 5, 2009

Day 36.3: Denver Conquers Chest, Shoulders & Tris!

I love this phase.

The repetition gets to me on some of the workouts and I'm liking the linear path from start to finish that this exercise entails.

I somehow am missing some data from my last Monday workout, so I had to guess at some of the weights. This may be a result of me hurting myself last Monday, or the fact that Vista sucks and is slowly cannibalizing my data, piece by piece.

Overall it was a good day. Rangers beat the hated Devils and I get a good workout in when I thought I might skip. Discipline wins in both cases!

Day 35.3: Denver Takes Day Off

"and how is that different than Friday or Wednesday?"

This one is on the schedule, that's the difference!

Day 34.3: Kenpo Kicks Back...

...at my cold.

It was hard to keep my energy up, but I got it done. It was, as always, a fun, nonstop workout where you never really have a break. It was good for my cold, but I'm still not 100%.

Day 33.3: Involuntary Day Off

I planned on working out, but this cold is kicking my butt.

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Day 32.3: Revenge of Denver's Biceps!

I did a late night session even though I'm battling a cold.

I do really enjoy this workout. I think it might be my favorite, because you really feel it afterwards. I also am able to do it relatively quickly by skipping ahead while the "kids" are still working out.

The Static Arm Curls killed me once again. I look ridiculous by the 7th rep on my left arm. Oh, well. I'm happy to be in this leg of the program.

Day 31.3: Denver's BACK to BICEPS

Yeah, the shoulder didn't let me do it. I'll try tomorrow, since I am avoiding Yoga anyway!

Dallas Update

Wow - At least someone is working out....(other than Thursday's). First they could get me in is Wed. I was doing ok, but yesterday I was headed to the closet and my back flared up. I'm not sure when I'll be back. Recover week and Phase two are my favorites. I always loved these weeks.

I'll report more later this week. Keep it up for both of us Denver!!!

Day 30.3: Denver's Plyo Pain

AS expected, my shoulder/arm pain felt worse today. It's kind of like a permanent dead-arm from a buddy in grade school. It only bothered me a little during plyometrics, but tomorrow is the day I'm worried about.

My heart rate was way higher than normal for some reason. That reason might be that I did not pause the workout once. Okay, I paused to take some electrolytes right before "the mother" (Jump-Knee-Tucks), but that was about 10 seconds. I had a tight time frame, so I was a little less trigger happy on the pause button. Whatever the reason, I maxed out at 181, which is about 10 beats higher than normal.

I'll report tomorrow about how my dead arm is doing.

Day 29.3: Denver's Chest, Triceps & Shoulders Hurt

Ow!

I forgot how much I liked this workout, but I have to admit that I didn't really "bring it" as much as I could have. I wasn't sure on the weights, so I was conservative. To make it worse, I was too lazy to correct the problem and since you only do one set of each, I'll have to up the ante next time.

I pulled something in my left arm/shoulder area during "Slo-Mo Throws" and I was worried I had done some major damage. I powered through (almost giving up) and I was fine by the end of the Ab-(torture) Ripper.

Anyway, I hope Dallas got good news from the Doc today.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 28.3: Denver's Rest Day (Continued)

So am I still entitled to a rest day if I didn't work out yesterday? Guess so.

My Polar Watch (F11) is mad at me. I was only at 54% for the week and the little "trophy" graphic went away. Sigh. Everyone's a critic!

Day 27.3: Denver Considers Yoga, Doesn't Do It

I don't have an excuse, just hate Yoga X.

Dallas is Recovering...

in a different way. Though he is in my town on business, he hasn't been able to workout (except maybe the stationary bike) ever since the Heavy Pants incident. I'm sure we'll get a status update after his doctor meets with him on Monday!

Day 26.3: Denver Survives Prison (Cell Push-Ups!)

I had forgotten how much Prison Cell Push-Ups kill me. I think the whole routine threw me for a loop on Wednesday, but this time the loathing of these torturous type of push-ups came back with a vengeance. I didn't recover (even with the Enlyten Strips) until three exercises later!

I still can't do the Plank to Chattaranga Run for more than 40 seconds. I'll get there.

I'm looking forward to the new exercises next week. Not sure what I am going to do tomorrow, though. Stay 'tooned!

Day 25.3: Denver Catches Up with Kenpo!

Okay, so with missing Monday and Tuesday, I did Core on Wednesday when I should have done Kenpo and I did Kenpo today when I should have done X- Stretch, so that leaves tomorrow doing Core again, or maybe I'll do Yoga or Cardio X? Does any of this make sense?

My heart rate was higher than normal for some reason. Again I was able to actually feel it during the blocks.

Day 24.3: Denver Gets Back to the Core!

I did it. I now am going to have a less than recovering recovery week, but it feels good to do it.

I hadn't actually done this routine in a while, so it was a shock to the system. It's a good workout, but you have to be careful with the weights. I used 10 pounds for a lot of the reps and most of them were too hard with that much weight (10 lbs? Much? I know.).

I didn't make the whole 60 seconds for most of the timed routines. Something to work up to, I guess.

Day 23.3: Denver & Dallas Eat Pizza. Then Denver Considers Core.

I waited about an hour and a half after eating before trying to workout. It was too soon, so I had to make it another late-night session.

Dallas and I had some really good, spicy pizza (not P90X Diet approved!) and then I drove him around Denver. It was dark, raining and miserable, (Dallas' timing was not exactly perfect. Denver rarely sees anything but the sun.) but he can now say he has actually seen Denver (he's been to the airport and a suburb, but never really Denver proper.

So I was dreading this workout, mainly due to the pizza consumption. Heartburn be damned, I wasn't going to blow off this routine (even though my mind quietly whispered sweet thoughts of skipping the entire week, because Dallas is on the shelf, after all, and it wouldn't be fair to get too far ahead of him... No! Stop these blasphemous thoughts!

I eventually made myself get the mat out and prepared to work my core. My stomach was still complaining about the pizza. What if I did the Core tomorrow? Would that be alright?

I tried the first few warm-ups and decided that if I didn't want to see my pizza again, the smart thing to do was to put off core until tomorrow. That means Core tomorrow, Kenpo on Thursday and then Core again. Uff-da!

Day 20.3: Denver's Kenpo & Kayak Day

I learned how to Kayak at 7:30 this morning, then came home to kick out a Kenpo workout.

Okay, so I didn't completely learn how to Kayak. I had my first lesson and I didn't drown.

Kenpo was good. I kept my heart rate up (even though Polar Own-Zone seemed to set it too low so I was in "hard" mode most of the workout.). I also had some pretty good intensity and my horse stance was actually horse size.

I brought it and I felt pretty productive at 10 AM!

Wondering how I'll like the recovery week. I might make my self do Yoga next week. We'll see.

Denver's Day 19.3: LEG-Go (of) My Ego

I am feeling guilty about not using weights in some of these leg exercises. I've had to convince myself that I am not wimping out, it is only a ploy to keep myself motivated and not get disheartened.

We'll see if it actually works.

I hope Dallas is still alive, or at least not laying in a chiropractor's hallway, just feet away from the receptionist.

Ab-Ripper really hurt today. I didn't get to it on Wednesday night, so I think that's why. I did manage to match my reps the second time around. I usually drop a few, but this time I didn't. I'm looking forward to the recovery week and then the different Monday and Wednesday workouts.

Day 18.3: Denver Decides...

...not to do Yoga.

I just can't bring myself to do this workout.

I planned on doing Cardio X, but did not. I'll Bring It tomorrow!

Day 17.3: Denver Arms Himself

First of all, I hope Dallas is okay, as a back injury is killer. Hopefully he recovers in time for the flight, since he will be coming to my neck of the woods.

Anyway, I brought it today. I love the third week because you really see improvement in your weight and reps. I only struggled with form for a few reps and I maintained a regular 25lbs weight for most of my exercises.

I have always had weak arms, but for some reason my triceps seem to be stronger than I thought. I have no problems with the Side-Tri Rises or the kickbacks. I don't know why, but I can do them well. Maybe my form is wrong or I'm not using my tris? Who knows.

Anyway, I did finally figure out that I have probably been doing the Twist-Grip Kickbacks wrong. I counted each way as one. Now I am counting forward and backward as 1 rep. I'm still managing okay.

Keep Bringing It!

Dallas on the mend

I can barely walk or stand up right now. Saw Chiro Monday afternoon. Headed back today as it is not getting better.

I'll update when I hear anything new. I have a trip next week and I don't see how I can sit in a plane seat for the flight with my back like this.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Day 16.3: Denver's Late Night with Plyometrics!

The best part is when you get to the Sports Bonus and you know you're finally done.

I had no energy for this.I felt awful all day. Another one of those times when I waited until I felt better and should have just done it as soon as possible.

The jumping got to me today.

I'll sleep well tonight.

Day 15.3: Denver Brings Chest(y) Back!

I know, stretching it a bit.

I brought it today, increasing my reps or weight on pretty much everything and my heart rate has dropped significantly since this has started again and I'm recovering faster. It's nice to be on track again.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 15.3 - Dallas tries Chest/Back

Well I made it to Heavy Pants. I was feeling great. I increase my push ups by 5 each, pulls 1-2.

Heavy Pants - After 4 my back said no more and decided to shoot pain throughout my back.

I'm going to try to recover today and see what happens.

Day 14.3 - Dallas gets back home

Today was travel day. Work tomorrow. I did not do X-Stretch.

Day 13.3 - Dallas Does his first Century

Great ride. I felt really strong on the ride. Time was slower than I wanted but there were some serious hills. That brought our time down. There is a fine line between saving your energy to make sure you make it to the end...and going too slow that you are on your bike too long.

next time I'll go a little faster b/c I still had gas in the tank when we finished.

No P90X today

Day 14.3: Denver 's Sunday Stretch

Okay, I didn't do it all. I'm already regretting it. Maybe later.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 13.3: K-K-Ken(po) is C-C-Coming to K-K-Kill Me!

Whenever I can make a reference to "A Fish Called Wanda" in an exercise blog, I know i'm going to have a great day!

I know that Dallas is the only other one reading this blog, but I enjoy entertaining myself, especially while he's out there biking some ridiculous amount of miles on his bike. I'm with you in spirit, Dallas! Good luck!

Anyway, Kenpo is always the highlight of my week and once again I didn't mind getting out of bed to do it (unlike most of the other routines where my mind and body argue like and old married couple for ages!). I was pumped.

I brought it.

I even managed to keep my heart rate up for most of the Block series (until the useless Star Blocks. Okay, they aren't that useless. I'm sure I'll use them in my next starring role as a ninja!)

Keep Bringing It!

Day 12.3: Denver Legs It All Hang Out

Have I used this one already? Hmm. Not sure. Cheesy? Yeah, well, I lived in Wisconsin once, so I'm entitled.

Once again, procrastination hit me with this workout. I had absolutely no motivation and waited until late at night again. I am determined to quit the late night routine so I can watch Letterman and Jon Stewart with the rest of the normal world.

Oh man did this kill me. I am out of EnLyten Strips, so I did the Power bar Gel in the middle. I like the vanilla flavor and it did keep me from dogging it halfway through.

I did get distracted for a bit, though. I decided to do my wall sits next to my fridge, which has magnetic poetry on it. I consider myself a literary type, so I composed during the workout. This was an amazing thing, because I was able to hold the wall sit without even watching the video, so I didn't do the easier angle the whole time. And I wrote a lousy poem to boot.

Every universe
surrounds
those men
who
question our ferocious
eternity
with desire for poetry

after he listens to
the
naked
broken
rhythms

Yeah, I know, but not bad for 90 seconds and a limited vocabulary. Don't ask me what it means, but I highly recommend this if you happen to have a fridge nearby your workout zone, some magnetic poetry and a desire to make ridiculous words into "art!"

Okay, I did get a little off track and after the wall sit, I paused my heart rate monitor and kept on the poem for another 2 or 3 minutes. Messed up my routine, but I stuck it out.

I almost skipped ab-ripper because it was so late, but decided against it and I'm always happy to have "worked out" (as opposed to being happy while working out!)

Sorry for the weird post. I'm sure I'll get back to my usual nonsense tomorrow.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 12.3 - Dallas over sleeps

Power went off last night, I over slept and didn't get to workout this morning. I did do my Ab Ripper X. Probably for the better that I skip legs today. With tomorrow's 100 mile ride my legs probably could not take it.

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Day 11.3: Denver Doesn't Do Yoga

I felt sea-sick all day.

Which is weird because Colorado is landlocked. At least, it was the last time I checked.

So I felt the wave of nausea early on, which sometimes happens when I take my gaggle of vitamins and other things my doctors tell me I better take if I want to be healthy. But the kicker is that I didn't take them last night, and I skipped them this morning due to queasiness.

So I waited.

And waited.

Never felt up to it. So unless I get a sudden burst of energy and wellness I will be skipping Yoga (I'm crushed, as Dallas knows how much I love Yoga!).

Here's hoping I can Keep Brining It tomorrow!

Day 11.3 - Dallas coasts through Yoga X

I didn't bring it today. Really tired and trying to keep it easy in prep for my ride this weekend. Also playing with the new iTunes 9 and iPhone 3.1

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Day 10.3: Late Night with Denver's Biceps!

Top 10 reasons NOT to do this workout late at night:

10. Glee is on. Yes, I believe the hype.
9. Top Chef is on. Yes, I'm a food geek.
8. It's late. duh!
7. My bed looks so cozy I could just curl up in it and go to sleep!
6. Three Words: Ab Ripper Sucks
5. It's dark and you can't admire your arms as well
4. Feeling Guilt during reps over not getting up early to do it
3. Muscles need sleep, too!
2. I haven't missed one yet (Oh, wait, that's a reason TO do this workout!)
1. Tony Horton is especially annoying after 9 PM.

'nuff said!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 10.3 - Dallas completes Shoulders & Arms w/ Ab Ripper

Felt really good today. Taking an extra two electrolyte strips before Plyo yesterday helped today. I'm not limping around this week.

I increased a few weights back to what I was pulling at the end of round one. Some I'm still lower (Flip Grip, Upright rows, In/Out curls). It will come with time.

Ab ripper - Well...I pause between every third exercise....when I say pause I have to pause the DVD so I can complete the reps. When I hit V-Up roll ups I was toast today. I finished, but was worn out.

Day 9.3: Denver Punished by Plyometrics!

Story at 10!

My hamstrings were tight to begin with and I think I ate a little too soon before doing this workout.

Note to self. When Tony is talking about waiting at least an hour before doing plyo, he ain't kidding!

I survived, though. My right Hammy started acting up with about twenty minutes left, so I took longer breaks between the last few sets. Don't know if that was a good idea or not, but I didn't want to risk injuring myself on Day 9.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 9.3 - Dallas Plyos it up

Felt better this week. I was able to keep with Dom this time. I'm sweating a ton right now. My weight went up today. Probably from the long weekend. Time to start eating better.

Day 8.3 7:30pm - Dallas felt guilty and did Ab Ripper

I can't skip any until my rides.

Monday, September 7, 2009

Day 8.3: Denver, We Have a Problem...

Not really, but a technical glitch, anyway.

So my stupid Vista computer has been acting up with Blue Screen Disease (a distant relative of the Swine Flu) and I guess that my previous Monday results were wiped from the computer data in XtremeFit Tracker. Interestingly enough, my measurement data (weight, exercise minutes, etc.) were still intact. It's not a huge problem, but I'm annoyed because I know that my reps went down from last week (They always take a dip in the second week, at least Mondays).

Anyway, todays workout was as expected. Painful. But I'm not as sore as I was last week and last night's stretch was pure joy. Like I said, my reps went down a few, I think.

Ab Ripper is slowly crawling up my list of "Things That I Hate"once again. I'll just leave it at that, (But I'm on to you, Tony Horton, you can't count Bicycles correctly if your life depended on it!)

Keep Bringing It!

Day 8.3 - Dallas does Chest and Back and....

I got the Chest and back in...then just before I was going to start Ab Ripper....a friend called to go for a ride. I had not been on my mountain bike in over 60 days....so I went. I'll make up for skipping ab Ripper another day.

Food: I'm not following the diet. I need to. Maybe this week I'll get better. I'm sure my results would be a lot better if I did.

Time will tell.

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Day 7.3: Denver's Sunday Stretch

I didn't do it until late. I always feel better afterwards, so it shouldn't be a problem getting motivated to do so.

I had great energy this week, and I actually stocked up on some healthy food so I am hoping to continue the momentum starting on Labor Day.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 7.3 - Dallas get to X-Stretch

Now that felt great. As I have said before, I'm very stiff. I really should have done this every Sunday during round 1 and 1.75 (never finished so I really can't say it was round 2).

I'm doing my first 100 mile ride next Saturday. I'll probably end up following Denver's lead and go no weight next Friday so I can rest slightly for Saturday's ride.

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Day 6.3: Denver's Kickin' It Kenpo Style!

I hadn't done this in a while, so it was nice to get back to my favorite workout.

I had to remind myself again about the intensity of your punches/kicks is key to making this workout effective. Again, having a picture of a bloody Mark Messier to look at and see my reflection. I'm serious, it works.

I can't believe I noticed something I hadn't noticed before. On most of the exercises, you do 15 or so regular and then another 15 "noise-makers" with extra umph and height. The Ball Kicks has a glitch. The first leg you do 15 regular and then 15 "noise-makers". Then the next leg, you do 20 regular and then 10 extras. Even after a year and a 8 months with this program, I am still seeing new things.

I also wonder about the 3 Direction Kicks. I like doing the "no touch" option. Now I'm assuming these are based on actual defense/offense moves. I am a little off balance and I'm sure that this can be corrected, but I can't imagine this saving time or giving you any extra force when actually being attacked by Ninjas. Just wondering.

I also love how Tony describes the "Hook-Upper Cut-Low Side Kick" routine. He says "think shins" for the height of the kick. They all then proceed to kick at a height that might indeed be at the shins of the individual deserving a good shin kicking... that is if I were kicking Lebron James or another NBA guy.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 6.3 - Dallas does Kenpo

I still hate the warm up to this one. I love the routine though!! Felt great to have a fun day. Looking forward to X-Stretch tomorrow.

Friday, September 4, 2009

Day 5.3: Denver's Aching Legs

Ouch.

I'm seriously regretting doing Plyo yesterday and I'm officially worried about Kenpo tomorrow.

I decided not to use the optional weights this time around, so Deep Lunges and Iso Lunge, etc. I'm doing sans weights with the hope that I won't dread this workout as much as I have recently.

I burned a ton of calories and survived the workout. I don't think I can walk anywhere for a few days.

I'm keeping to my schedule and I'm not tempted to skip (yet!) so I'd say it's been a successful first five days.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 5.3 - Dallas suffers through Legs and Back

I forgot to print the sheet from the software we use. So I used the ones Beachbody supplies. They don't have a space for all the leg exercises. So I had to guess which ones we did 25, 20, or 30 on.

I did 7 Rev Grip pull ups....better than Monday. Wide grip....well lets just say the chair got ALL the use. I did get 1 in on the second round. The switch grip I find very hard b/c my pull up bar doesn't a grip where I need it. So I end up doing close grip overhand and rev grip. I don't really like the close grip.

Ab Ripper - I'm starting to get back into a rhythm with it. I still pause every once in awhile, but I get through it.

Denver's Day 4.3: My-Oh, Plyo- What a Mistake!

Well whadya know! I still have some original titles left in me after all! I'm totally raising the bar for you, Dallas!

The best part of Plyometrics is when you finally reach the "Sports Bonus", which is like the cool down after a long bike ride. You're still working, but you can see your house in the distance.

My brilliant idea of switching up the routine was brilliant for about 5 minutes. When I was feeling it before I even reached Jump Knee Tuck, I knew I was in trouble. I had to stop right before the "mother" and take a short walk around to gear up for the second half. Now I have Legs tomorrow and then Kenpo on Saturday. What have I learned from this? Never disobey Tony!

I've been using the Enlyten strips that Dallas introduced me to. I take 2 Antioxidant strips and then 3 Electrolytes Plus strips before the workout. I was not as sore as I usually am after a layoff, so if the strips are the reason, I'm sold. The only problem is if I miss putting them in my cheek, they get caught on my lip and it's like a 4th grade bubble-gum explosion.

With little expectations of this round, I am not sure if that will help or hinder my dedication. Maybe I just need to push myself to come up with even more original titles?

Keep Bringing It!

Day 4.3 Dallas DOES Yoga

Yes...I went ahead and decided I'll do Yoga for the first 60 days (unless I have an early meeting - 1:30 is a long workout. I'll switch to Cardio X on those days). I forgot how many dang Dogs we had to do. I didn't think it would ever stop. I'm still really sore from Shoulders and Plyo. My whole body is tight. Makes Yoga even harder when you can't bend at all.

Day 3.3 Dallas - Shoulders and Arms -Ab Ripper

Wow....I'm weak. Ab Ripper was a bit harder today. My back hurt so once we got the V-Up Roll ups my back was pretty sore.

I'm using some pretty low weights these days.

I still have not done any measurements or the fit test. I'll try to do it this Sat.

Day 2.3 - Dallas Gets into Plyo

I know I will never be able to come up with anything cool for titles...I will give up on day 2??

Plyo...what can you say about Plyo. I'm going to be sore. I took my electrolytes, but I think I'll need more next week. I brought it as much as I could. I was not able to stay with Dom for round two of jump knee tucks...that is always my guage on how I'm doing....

Day 1.3 - Dallas does Chest & Back

I forgot how much I hated pull ups. This time around I was able to do a few of each type. I still am not even close to just pounding out 20+ like Tony. Ab Ripper...Scissor

I have two friends starting today as well. Not sure if they will blog or not.

Day 3.3: Denver's Burning Biceps

Ow.

So I started with a simple goal. Use the same weight for all exercises.

Simple enough, right?

Halfway through I realized this was a big mistake. With my feeble muscles, 25 lbs might as well have been 100.

I eventually decided I could muster the extra strength walking back over to the switchplates.

I did Ab-Ripper as well this time, after forgetting (hah!) to go back to it on Monday. My abs aren't speaking to me at the moment, but their protests are getting through loud enough.

Anyway, I don't think Dallas thought I was going to blog. It helps keep me on track, so I might be doing it solo.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 2.3: Denver Switches Things Up!

I did Cardio instead of Plyo and I'm regretting it already.

More tomorrow!

Keep Bringing It!

Denver's Day 1.3: Here we go again!

I don't know if we are going to be back to blogging, but I figured I'd post for now. I did Day one, Chest and Arms and as usual, after taking time off, my reps dropped dramatically.

I'm liking that we'll finish up right around Thanksgiving, then I can gain all my weight back around Christmas and then do the old New Years resolution and start the whole thing over again. By that time I might have to do P90X Plus. We'll see.

I am switching things up a bit. I still don't think I can commit to Yoga X, so I am doing cardio X on Tuesdays and Plyo on Thursdays. But then after I already skipped Plyo on Tuesday, I realized that is three days on leg intensity in a row (Plyo-Legs and Back-Kenpo). I guess Tony knows what he's doing, eh?

Anyway, I didn't do the fit test, but I might take pictures.

Keep Bringing It!

Dallas - Monday is around the corner

Well - I'm going to try to start Round two AGAIN. This Monday I will start Round 2 for the 2nd time. Hopefully I can make it the full 90 days. I do have two rides in the middle. One is the second weekend in Sept. The other is the third weekend in October. This 90 days will have me finishing Nov 28th.

Wish me luck

Wed - Dallas does Shoulders and Arms

I had to drop some weight, but it felt good. I have not found enough
time to do Ab Ripper this week. I wonder how that will affect the week.

Tuesday - Dallas plyos

Always one of my faves. I know I have worked out with this one

Boy that hurt. I haven't done that many pushups in awhile.

Dallas Plays Catch Up - Week 6 Tuesday - Plyo

Second day back. Got it done. I took a few seconds off a few of the
exercises. My heart was not fully into it. I was worried about my
back with all the jumping around.

Dallas Plays Catch Up Week 6 - Monday

Chest, Shoulders and Tris - I got up. Back still hurts, but I'm
working out anyway.

Week 7: Thursday: Denver Might Do Cardio X

Motivation Low. I'll update later if I do!

Dallas heals

My back has been hurting this past week do I have not worked out all
week. I plan to ride this weekend and see how the back does. Then I'll
be back at it next week hopefully.

I think I've gained some weight back. Makes it even harder to not get
up and workout. I'm just worried I'm going to really hurt something.

Week 7: Wednesday: Denver's Shoulders and Arms (are sore)

Even being back on track, I am still sore after these workouts with all this muscle confusion.

I'm running out of writing steam, as I've caught up to the current date. I'm sure Dallas thought I had fallen off the wagon once again. No! It's alive!

Keep Bringing It!

Week 7: Tuesday: Denver's Plyo-mania

Plyo always wakes me up.

Good workout. I'm in much better shape than last week!

Keep Bringing It!

Week 7: Monday: Denver Does Chest and Arms (Late Night Edition)

I used to hate this workout, and it has slowly become like an old friend. The 12 exercises, limited weights and ability to speed through the workout is a welcome respite from some of the more involved workouts.

I did pretty well with my reps and felt pretty good again.

It's good to be back on track. Looking for a strong finish. No excuses now!

Keep Bringing It!

Week 6: Denver took the Weekend Off

I had a Staycation and watched movies all weekend with my wife. I thought about doing Kenpo, but never seriously got the mojo to get it going.

Week 6: Friday: Denver's Legs Are Burning

I still loathe this workout!

I did okay, and the fact that I worked out the entire week probably helped me out a bit.

It definitely helped to lower the weight for the first exercise, the deep lunges.

Dallas has a big riding schedule this summer, so I doubt he'll need to maintain much this summer. I'm going to live vicariously through him and hope to someday get on the bike bandwagon.

Hopefully we can keep this blog going in some form, though it is probably a good way for people to see how the motivation can have it's ebb and flow.

Keep Bringing It!

Week 6: Thursday: Denver Did Cardio X

I had done this routine once before, just to try it out after my first round. I had forgotten what it was like. It's basically a combo of Yoga, Kenpo and Plyometrics. I like it, although I am not sure it is as gratifying a workout as all of those individually. It's definitely more enjoyable than doing the 1 1/2 hour of Yoga.

I wasn't able to keep up with posting, so I apologize. The Rangers were in the playoffs and I basically ignored the blog for a while. I know I've promised to be regular before, but I mean it this time. Honest. I'll never leave you again, baby, now order the pizza! ;-)

As for my calorie burning, I think my heart rate monitor is okay. One thing is that my doctor described me as a furnace and my rating was +26% (Fast) and I burn 2304 calories a day doing nothing but sitting on the couch. My V02 was measured at 334 ml/min. Not sure what all these numbers mean, but I think the spike in my calories was due to several things I didn't elaborate on:

1. I took a lot of breaks, in fact by the time I was done, it was about 1 and 1/2 hours. Of course my heart rate was still going during this time, so that added to the inflated calorie count.

2. My heart rate was really high. Higher than it's ever been. Not sure why, but maybe because I had not done any strenuous routines in a while.

3. My Heart rate monitor may have set me at a lower target range because of my inactivity. I was over the target zone for the entire workout, which I think increases the calorie counting. I think Dallas is much more informed about these things, especially how to maximize the monitor. I pretty much just push the button and start, letting the Polar "OwnZone" do it's thing.

Keep Bringing It!

Week 6 - Saturday - Dallas rides

Well I didn't do kenpo. I rode three hrs instead. Really windy. Headed
north with the wind and flew( felt great). Rode 21 mile in an hour.
Then turned around heading south and came to a stand still. Took me
two hours to get back at 9 miles and hour. Boy was that a wake up
call. Burned 2500 calories

Week 6 - Thursday - Dallas does NOT do Yoga - Rides

Got up at 4:50 and went for a one hour ride. I need to get used to my road bike seat again.

I don't see how Denver burned 1500 calories during a one hour Plyo? You might want to check your HR monitor. I burn 650 or so in a hour??

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Week 6 - Wed - Dallas does Back and Biceps

Looks like Denver is back with his much better written posts. I'm sorry to say you won't get that from me. Glad to have you back Denver.

I too took way to much time off. My weights were much lower and my reps fell as well. My back still hurts so this week I dropped all my weights by 5 lbs to try and see if that would help. Not much.

I did get Ab Ripper in....I didn't really think I would get it done.

As for an August round...let's see. I have:
Trip out of town first week of Aug
100 mile ride end of August (IN TEXAS - great temps by then)
101 mile ride two weeks later in Tulsa
then my 90 mile ride in Austin at the end of Oct.

I may have to make these weeks very light...but I'll put it on my schedule to see.

Week 6: Wednesday: Denver's Biceps are Bulging!

Glam muscles.

I can't lift my arms, but it was worth it. I even did Ab-Ripper (which I had decided was overkill! Yeah, I know!)

It was frustrating that I couldn't hit the weights I had previously managed well. I was being ambitious and then I would lose all my strength after 5 or 6 reps. Very frustrating.

I'm feeling better about myself now that I am back on track. Of course it's only my third day in a row after a few weeks of (Almost) Death and Taxes. Okay, I wasn't that sick, but I needed to flex my cultural literacy street cred!

Anyway,

Keep Bringing It!

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Week 6: Tuesday: Denver Pushes Play for Plyo!

Cool, I don't think I've used that title before.

First Plyo in a while meant lots of Pauses and my heart rate was pretty high. I burned 1500 calories, so that gives me an excuse to order a pizza during the rangers Playoff game tomorrow night!

It's all downhill after the Mary Catherine's. Up until that point I was fighting it big time.

Good to see Dallas is doing well. We'll finish this round strong and then it will probably be limited in the summer. I'll probably do another full routine in August or September (probably try to sync with Dallas again. Of course that means that it might overlap with the holidays if we don't start in mid-August.

Keep Bringing It!

Week 6: Monday: Denver Returns with a Taxing Workout

I did Chest, Shoulders and Triceps today. As usual, taking time off to be sick was a major setback and I had very low rep totals. It was pretty good though and my arms were feeling it.

I still failed at the two speed twitch push-ups. I will get them eventually!

Thursday - Dallas Does Cardio X

I like this one.  Quick and well rounded.
Wednesday - Dallas does Back and Biceps

Looks like this method doesn't give me the title.  I'll switch back.

Felt good to try to do some pull ups (my worst exercise)

With a bad back I had to drop the weights (not only weight wise...but to the floor my back was hurting so much)
Tuesday - No idea od day - Dallas Does Plyo

Trying a new way to post.  We'll see if it works out.

I had forgotten how good this workout makes you feel.  Only issue is I tweeked my back Sunday night.

Denver Does Taxes

I have a part time gig as a tax preparer so I am pretty much spent. I got sick again last week which is frustrating me to no end. I'll be back on board starting on Thursday.

Monday, April 13, 2009

Monday the 13th - Dallas redoes Chest, Shoulders and Tris

Again - I'm not sure what day this is. It should be a redo of the
start of the 2nd month.

I didn't push it too hard. Last time I started after a break I was
sore for a few days. I'll ease back into this. Not enough time for
Abs.

I'll do them tonight.

Sunday the 12th - Dallas gets back on the bike

I have not idea what day it is in my quest for round two completion.

I can tell you Sunday I slipped out and went on a short ride before
the final 6 holes of the Masters. It was quick but felt good to get
riding again.

Day 43.2: Denver Skips Stretch

I know. Maybe I'll do it later!

Day 42.2: Denver Does Kenpo

I made myself do something. I've been slacking big time once again.

Kenpo can always get me going.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 41.2: Denver Still Not On The Ball!

Commitment Level low!

Maybe Dallas and I can get going next week?

Day 40.2: Denver Slipping Once Again!

As Dallas said, this is tough when you get off track!

Friday, March 27, 2009

Wow

I'm still trying to get my energy back from last week.  I have not been able to get up and the morning is the only time I can get a workout in.

I need to figure a way to get back on the horse.  I now see what happens....once you miss a few it snowballs on you.

Day 39.2: Denver Misses Workout

Some things came up and I was too tired to work out when I got home.

As for the numbers, I am using Dallas' system. Since you are doing last weeks, you are a week behind me (I just picked up where Dallas would have been last week, skipping the Recovery week. Now that he took last week off due to illness, we are still not in sync!). I think we can function with you being a week behind, since I know I'll eventually fall off the wagon!

Day??? (tues) -Dallas does plyo

Boy it is hard after being sick to control your heart rate. Mine was all over the place.

No clue about dates. Do I use the number since starting or use the number for the day I should be on?

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Day 38.2: Denver's Late Night Plyo!

I meant to get up early this morning and do Plyo.

I didn't.

Instead I procrastinated until the last possible minute (There was a Rangers game on tonight!) but I eventually got it done.

My heart rate is back down to a decent resting rate now. I was a little concerned about my lack of consistent workouts.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 37.2: Denver is confused by numbers (Chest/Arms/Triceps)

I have no idea what day this is. I haven't reset my software yet, so I've been writing on paper my results.

I was happy with this workout, as I increased all my reps and even upped my weight on a lot of exercises.

I still hate Two Speed Twitch Push-Ups, but I did much better this time. I also was able to do one-armed push-ups again and I increased my Plyo-Push-Ups, getting airborne for a solid 12 reps this time.

I find it amazing how little time it takes to lose the strength I had before. It's disheartening.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 36.2: Denver Doesn't Stretch

I should have forced myself to do this, but I didn't.

Shoulda-coulda-woulda. I know.

Monday, March 23, 2009

Day 29.2 (redo) - Dallas does Chest Shoulders & Tris

Well I got up and did it. I think I have the days right. I'm redoing
last week.

My reps went down a bit, but I got through the workout.

Dallas rides

Boy it is hard to breathe with your chest full of garbage. Rode for a little over an hour

Day 35.2: Denver Does Kenpo X

Yeah!

I had missed Kenpo during my time off/laziness. It was fun to kick a little butt!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 34.2: Denver Moves Kenpo to Sunday!

No time to do this today.

Day 33.3: Denver Does Legs & Back

Ow.

Ow. Ow. Ow.

My legs are feeling it. I did this on Friday morning and I forgot how painful it was.

I can't say I "brought it" as much as I wanted to, as I was under some time constraints and whipped through many of these exercises.

I lessened my weight on the first exercise (balance lunges) and it didn't kill me for the rest of the program.

Keep Bringing It!

Saturday, March 21, 2009

Day 32.2: Denver Did some Cardio

I gladly skipped Yoga and tried a bit of Cardio X.

I didn't miss Yoga, but I'm worried about my flexibility.

More tomorrow!

Keep Bringing It!

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Day 31.2: Denver does Back & Biceps

I didn't bring it. My reps and weights were down, a result of my starts and stops over the past month. I felt lousy and somehow got through it, with lows in my rep totals I haven't had in a long time.

I'm back on track at least.

Keep Bringing it!

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

Day 30.2: Denver Does Plyo

And boy did it hurt!

I hadn't really done a whole Plyo workout in a while and my inactivity showed!

I burned 1200 calories, had a max heart rate of 181 and an average of 159!

I was feeling it throughout. Surprised I didn't hurt myself as I felt my legs tweaking during the warmup!

Sorry for Dallas, I know how he feels!

Keep Bringing It!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Dallas takes the week off

I'm sick. I'll restart this week on Monday.

Monday, March 16, 2009

Day 29.2: Denver Struggles to Catch Up!

It really feels like starting over.

I'm sorry to hear that Dallas has a sore throat. If it is the same thing I had here in Colorado, he is a hurtin' pup right now. I'm still feeling the effects and I'm going on my third week/ But the first week was a doozy!

I started out okay, but my weights and reps were down considerably. I;m having difficulty with the software as I can't seem to see my old workouts? Anyway, I was rolling along (sort of) until:

Two-Twitch Speed Push-Ups, my old nemesis.

Why do you torment me so?

This exercise is a motivation and confidence killer. I think I saw it on the Post-Office's Most Wanted list.

Anyway, I made it through.

Keep Bringing It!

PS. Dallas- You might not be able to do anything the next week or so, so I'll just catch up while you recover! I recommend asking your doctor for the Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray as that (believe it or not) made my throat feel better! Of course, I thought I had Strep and it turned out it was a nasal infection that affected the throat. Who knew?

Day 29.2 - Dallas has a sore throat

Throat is on fire. No workout today.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

Day 28.2- Dallas rides

I didn't stretch. I went for a one hour mountain bike ride. Tomorrow starts the new weight workouts. We'll see if I can get all the days workouts in this week.

Day 27.2 - Dallas has a full day - Skips

Lots of Skips this round. This up coming week is crazy. I'm not sure
how I'm going to get my workouts in.

Day 26.2 - Dallas can't get up - Skips

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Denver Still Sick, Does Shoulders & Arms

I'm still off, so I hope to get on the same schedule with Dallas next week.

I hate that I am sore again. I promised myself I wouldn't take so much time off and I did the same thing again. This blog is a good example of the struggles to keep going with the program after you have completed it.

Every time I think I've gotten over my illness, I'm coughing again. I might have pushed it too hard this week, determined to get back on track. I don't think that helped getting over this bug.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 25.2- Dallas does core

I love this workout

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Day 24.2- Dallas does kenpo

I have to sat I really am upset with my skipping core. I love that workout.

Kenpo was great today. Tomorrow is stretch bi think I'll do core instead.

Day 23.2 - Dallas skips.

Had a really rough day yesterday. Neededca break

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Denver Does Plyometrics (Not sure what day I'm on!)

I meant to do this earlier, but I got caught up in watching American Idol.

Yeah, I know.

So I did Plyo to make up for my slothiness!

Keep Bringing It!

Denver Did the Wrong Workout!

Since I have been out of it, I just assumed this was the third week of the resistance week, so I did Chest and Back.

After three weeks of minimal work, I can sum up my workout in one word:

Ow.

I'm being punished for not sticking with the program. I might have to do this week and then sync up with Dallas next week and jump to the second session. I don't know if that will be detrimental or not, but it might be the only way for me to stay on track with Dallas.

The biggest thing I noticed is that the second rep of almost every exercise had me hitting about half of the original reps. I think adrenaline carried me through the first part of it and then reality hit and I couldn't do a thing. My Pull-Ups were a little better than my Push-Ups.

I am liking my scale telling me I'm at 171 pounds and 14.1 Body Fat!

Keep Bringing It!

Monday, March 9, 2009

Day 22.2 - Dallas does Cardio X instead of Yoga

Recovery week - After not working out Thurs/Fri - I'll see how a
recover week goes. I probably need more of a kick in the @$$

Good workout today. My legs are a bit tired due to the ride
yesterday. I need to ride more. 1 hour on the bike is nothing.

I have three big rides this year. I need to get ready.

Day 21.2 - Dallas rides

It was an 80 degree so I got out my bike and went for a 1 hour ride.
Felt good. This is a weird P90X round. I'm mixing things up.

I hope Denver is feeling better. Weight loss is good, but not that way.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Denver Lost 9 Pounds!

Well, sort of.

When I started this phase I was at about 178, but had been right around 180 for a while now. Today I woke up and weighed myself at (drum roll please!)

171.2 lbs!

My secret?

Get sick. Really sick.

I got some kind of flu bug starting on Tuesday, hitting rock bottom on Wednesday. Went to the doctor on Thursday to rule out Strep throat (I didn't have it) and medicine helped me survive Friday.

I'm still miserable but I almost have some energy back. I can finally eat food after not eating a thing from Tuesday evening to Thursday night.

Yes, the results are impressive, but I don't recommend it.

I haven't read Dallas' posts yet, but I received a text message blaming me for his slacking. I hope to be able to start back up on Monday, so I'll see what he wants to do.

Keep (Cough!) Bringing It!

Day 20.2 - Dallas does mow the yard X

About two hours plus. May ride later

Day19.2 - Dallas can't get up

Day 18.2 - Dallas skips

Denver's fault :-)

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Day 17.2 - Dallas does Shoulders & Arms

Up earlier than I wanted. But I made it through

Day 16.2 - Dallas does Plyo

Yup...got it done.

Denver's Update

Who is this Denver guy and what's he doing on Dallas' blog?

I've had a rough couple of weeks and I missed some workouts. I'm a little out of it as I have been battling some kind of bug and motivation problems. I have to get back on the program. I struggle with whether to do the workout I miss the next day or just move on.

I think AB Ripper might be a hard one to do. I am thinking about getting P90X+ as a way to mix it up a bit.

I'll update later on!

Day 15.2 - Dallas does Chest & Back

Boy was I tired getting up today. I got my workout in. Now that I
can do a few pull ups...of course I'm upset I can't do as many as I
think I should.

I don't think I win against my mind.

Ab Ripper is getting easier....not easy...just easier. I don't have
to pause as much.

I think I lost Denver

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Day 14.2 - Dallas skips X-Stretch

Well the weekends are tough to get my workouts in. I may be only
doing M-F

I feel bad....this is the first time I have skipped and not caught up
the next day.

We'll see how it goes.

Day 13.2 - Dallas skips Kenpo

Friday, February 27, 2009

Day 12.2 - Dallas does Legs & Back / Ab Ripper

Motivation was low today. I stayed up late catching up on Jack Bauer
(had to know if the US was in danger today).

I finished strong. It is really nice this round to be able to do a
few pull ups without a chair assist.

Ab Ripper was good today. Had a hard time with backward bicycles, but
Scissors went a lot better. I read a tip to put our hands under your
lower back. It tilts your hips to make it a little easier. I did it
Monday/Wednesday...each day I take my hands out for longer and
longer. Today I only has them in for the first 5.

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Day 11.2 - Dallas does CardioX

Good mix of all the others

Sent from my iPhone

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Day 10.2 - Dallas does Shoulders and Arms

I lost energy during the bonus round. I was looking for it to be over.

I got through it though.

Weight today was 156. It had drifted up to 158 on Monday. My body
fat has stayed at 21 for weeks now. I wonder when that will finally
change.

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Day 9.2 Dallas does Plyo

As you can tell...I've given up coming up with cool titles.

Good workout today. Tried some new electrolyte strips today. I'm
curious if I will be as sore tomorrow.

Felt good to jump around. Burned 597 calories today. Avg HR was
148. Max was 173.

Monday, February 23, 2009

Day 8.2: Denver is Alive! (Really!)

Round 2 Day 7 - Dallas gets Kenpo done

Got my new HR strap...all is good again.

Kept my HR up, felt great to get it in. I was pissed I didn't get it
done yesterday. I hate to start skipping in the first week.

Round 2 Day 6 - Dallas too busy for Kenpo

Friday, February 20, 2009

Round 2 Day 5 - Dallas does legs & back

Early workout. Felt good. Very hard workout with my legs feeling so
sore.

Round 2 Day 4 - Dallas trades Yoga X for Cardio X

Much better.  It is a pretty good mix of Yoga/Core/Plyo.

I liked it.  It was much shorter...that is for sure.  43mins instead of 1:30

I'm still really sore from Plyo on Tuesday

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Round 2 Day 3 - Dallas does Shoulders/Arms

Up early...got it done.

my legs are pretty sore today....2 weeks off of Plyo can hit you hard.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Day 2.2 (Round 2 Day 2) - Dallas does Plyo

I wasn't sure what was better.  Typing round 2 Day 2 or 2.2 or 1.2.

I guess I was going for always having the day# in the front to be able to tell quickly what day we are on.  We can go to just Day 2 (without the . )

My HR monitor is not working.  I need to pick up a new strap.

Plyo was good.  I was not up to my last plyo workout, but it was good.  I felt it.  I still feel it.

Denver Day 1.2 (1.2? Not sure I'm following you, Dallas?)

How are we in version 1.2? Wouldn't it be Round 2, Day 1? or 2.1? You can tell I'm not a computer software developer.

Anyway. I can't say I am thrilled to be doing it again. I haven't even totaled up my stats from the last round. My work schedule changed dramatically and I am going to struggle with motivation early. I was going to start last week, but Dallas begged me to wait another week. So I only skipped it for him! If not for his request, I would be down another week! (And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you!)

Anyway...

Day 1.2 - Dallas gets Back and Chest

I'll update later - Day one down.

Wife is not happy with another 90 days of getting up at 5am. I'll need to figure out how to get this adjusted...without her support....I won't finish another 90 days.

Dallas - End of First Round / Start of Round Two

I'll update this later with the other half of my final numbers from round 1.

End numbers & Start numbers

Day 0 / Day 30 / Day 60 / Day 90 (Not really day 90)
Weight -
Body Fat - %

Measurements: Day 0 / Day 30 / Day 60 / Day 90 (not really day 90)
Chest -
Stomach (Love Handles) -
Arms/Legs - I doubt I'll track these. The top two are more important. I didn't see any change here and it is not a top priority.

Goals for Round Two: To hit my BMI and overall goals I need to be here to beat them.
Weight - 148

Dallas' Final numbers - Part 1

Here are some final numbers

Start Weight 168.5 and 24% BF

Today weight 158 and 20%BF (I hit a low of 156.5 and 19% - But that was right after a ride)

Dropped 10.5 lbs and 4% BF

I don't have my photos for final measurments done yet.  I did redo my Fit Test....

Pull Ups - 1/2 - 8 = increase of 7.5 (I can bang out a lot more rev grip - these were wide grip)

Vert Leap - 9.75" - 13.75" = increase of 4" (I may not have done the 1st one correctly - I don't see how I can jump that much more)

Push Ups - 25 - 46 = Increase of 21 (Now that is improvement.  I think I could have gotten a few more, but my daughter was counting and staring at me)

Toe Touch - 0 - 1.5 - Increase of 1.5" - I'm surprised this increased...I'm stiff as a board.

Wall Squat - 2:07 - 2:24 = increase of 17 secs

Bicep Curls - 18 w/ 20 lbs - 10 w/ 30 lbs = I don't think this is an increase

In/outs - 37 - 75 = Increase of 38 (I doubled my first test)

HR Maximizer - 164/137/125/112/106 - 182/130/118/110/105 = Pretty good change here...I max'd higher and recovered a lot faster

Day 90: Yoga as the last workout?

I followed Dallas' lead and postponed Yoga to today. Fitting to end on Super Bowl Sunday. My effort this time around waned at the end. My next task is to figure out what to do next. I'll post a summary and my re-take of the Fit-Test. My apologizes for not maintaining the energy for this blog throughout the entire run. It's a good parallel to the actual workout. Some days you are into it, others you struggle to Push Play. For those thinking of undertaking the challenge, I suggest reading others advice on the subject and commit to 90 days. If I had to do this round again, I am not sure I would do it around the holidays. On one hand it was great to be working out around the time of year when calories multiply like Paris Hilton tabloid covers. On the other, you are almost destined to not get as good a result as you would like.

I guess the answer is simple for P90X or life in general:

Keep Bringing It!

Day 89: Denver's Pain in the Core

To finish off as badly as I have been, I hurt myself in the chest doing one of the early exercises. Not sure if I'll be able to do Yoga tomorrow as a result.

Day 88: Denver Doesn't Stretch!

With my motivation back to the negative side, I didn't find the time to do this. Yeah, I know. Way to finish Strong, Denver!

Day 91 - Dallas - does Yoga a day late

Got my yoga in today.  I skipped two parts, but it was a good final day.

Finished!!!  Wow.  I'll get my final numbers up later.  I'll also re do the fit test.

Day 90 - Dallas does birthday and not Yoga

Daughter's B-Day...not time for Yoga

Day 89 - Dallas cores out

I really brought it today.  The Plank to Chat iso and run also kill me.  I could never get through the full 60 sec....today I did.  It felt great to hit that goal.

Overall I feel good.  Only Yoga tomorrow and Stretch on Sunday.  Getting up at 5am every day is tough.  I have to make sure I only take a week at the most off.  I need to plan out the next routine this weekend so I have it ready.

Day 88 - Dallas stretches

Wow - Recvovery week and I got up to stretch. This is the first recover week when a holiday is not in the middle. This is also the first time I did it during a recovery week.

Weight is back at 158 again....now if it will drop just a little more.

Day 87: Denver Loves Kenpo X

Nothing like Kenpo to change the mood I'm in. Awesome workout.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 86: Denver's Core Issue

I am finally eating well (and often) so now it is just getting motivated to do any of these workouts. Kenpo is the only one I really look forward to right now, as I am verging on "burnout" mode. The Core workout is a great all encompassing routine, so I figure that it might be one I want to use a lot if I design my own program going forward. I am also thinking about the 10 Minute Trainer to aid me in the transition. I don't think I'll be going back to Hip Hop Abs, which was not my thing!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 85: Denver Does Selective Yoga!

Downward Dogs dogged me to skip several parts of this workout ( I confess, Dallas was talking to me about this before I actually did the Yoga and he kind of gave me the idea. I am at my Yoga Boiling point and dread doing Saturday's routine. I will do it, though!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 84: Denver Stretched!

I confess I didn't do the whole stretch! But it felt good! I'm way behind in the blogging, so this will be short and sweet!

Day 87 - Dallas Kicks up Kenpo

Last Kenpo for round one (I think).  It was good today.  I burned some more calories and had fun.

I'm iced in so I felt I could take my time.....My mind keeps trying to figure out the best way to put round two together.

Day 86 - Dallas completes Core

I was glad to get this day to come. I like this workout. It is a total body workout. I still can't figure out what to write down to track. I made sure I had my sheet.....then I had the counts, but then it would ask for time.....then I would get the time for the next one and it would ask for reps. I gave up except for the push ups.....

Anyway I got below 160 again today...Hopefully I can keep it there. Can't wait till later in the week when I get to do this again.

This may be another one to swtich for Yoga in round two.

Day 85 - Dallas - Yoga - (ran out of titles)

Well another day down. Not sure where I was the last two Recovery weeks. I thought it was Plyo/Kenpo today.....forgot we did Yoga a bunch of times this week.

I'm looking forward to Core tomorrow.

Weight went back up over 160 this morning. I always gain on the weekends and lose during the week. I didn't eat any different....who knows.

Day 84 - Dallas - X-Stretch

Great stretch day.  My daughter joined me for the last half.  I thought I was doing really well till she bent over backwards and touched the ground.....not going to happen for me.

On Plough I can't touch the ground with my feet.

I really think Tony did a great job putting this program together.  The yoga is a too long and I think they need to increase the cardio for the Kenpo (during the breaks I
'm running and doing anything I can to get my HR higher).  But the rest it perfect.  Don't get me wrong...I hate scissors, but it is worth it.

Pretty cold this weekend, so I won't get to ride this weekend.  I was hoping to burn some extra calories this weekend to make up for the last week.  I want to get even better results.

I'm with Denver...I think I'll take a week off then jump back in with a modified workout.

Cardio X or Plyo in place of Yoga and add a Stretch mid week.  On top of that bring on some rides to burn some calories throughout the week.

I have a big ride schd planned this Spring/Summer.  I need to lose another 15 lbs of fat and gain 8 lbs of muscle back.  That will put me at 151 or so on the weight and mid teens on BF%.  I'm not sure I can get to single digit BF%.  I like some foods too much.

So that is the plan for the next 90+ days

Day 83 - Dallas get kicking with Kenpo

Is still can't believe it is all coming to an end.

I did pretty well...or so I thought for this one (I had to skip two exercises  near the end...I was causing dinner to be late - I came back for the Vert punches HR maxer).  I could not get my HR up.  Max was 148 and Avg was only 120.  I have to say I was pushing it hard....just not seeing the effort turn into HR increase.  Only burned 324 cals.

On a positive note....I hit 158 for the day.  2 lbs under 160.  WooHoo!!!  BF% is still at 20, but at least I see some change.

Day 83: Denver's On Track With KENPO X!

Finally I got it going. I was into it and I brought it. Wide Horse stance and all, I was kicking and punching and blocking all over the place.

I feel bad I have been slacking on the blog, but it's been a crazy month work-wise. I should be able to get a better grip on things next week. My results will not be as good as the first time since I am slacking towards the finish.

As for the software, Dallas, did you get the update? It allows you to export results and then start again.

I am going to start over and I might substitute Yoga with Cardio X or maybe a Kenpo session. I might get the 10 Minute Trainer and supplement that in. I love the P90X workout, it's more of a time management thing. I like working out 7 days a week (well, 6 and a stretch), I don't like the fact that it takes more than an hour to do it.

More tomorrow!

Keep Bringing It! (At least more than I have been lately!)

Day 82: Denver Legs It Out (Sort Of)

Someone send me some motivation!

Day 81: Denver's Yoga Retreat

I am dreading doing this twice next week!

I did not finish this workout once again!

Friday, January 23, 2009

Day 82 - Dallas does last legs and back

Well after I finished todays workout I realized this was the last legs
and back workout for my first round of p90x. Kind of a weird feeling.

I did pretty well with my pull ups today. I'll update with my reps
tonight.

Kenpo, stretch then recovery week. Then it is all over.

Day 81 - Dallas Yoga

Ok...I'm losing enegry these days.....and motivation for Yoga. The 1st half bores me to death. The second half I really enjoy. It is just too long a workout with no break up.

I guess I have two more of these and it is all over. I need to figure out what I will do after this round. Waking at 5am every day to workout is beating me down. I need to figure out a betetr workout sch so I get sleep, but also don't miss my eve time with my family or have to shower a bunch of times a day.

Day 80 - Dallas - Back and Biceps

Pushed it hard and felt great. I was exhausted this day. I did ok with the pull ups today. again I pushed hard for the first sets, but when I got to the last two pull up sets I was toast.

Ab Ripper was a ripper....tough day.

Day 79 - Dallas Plyo

Some how I thought I had updated the blog...I guess not.

I got Plyo in....no breaks...felt great.

Still not seeing the weight loss or BF reduction I had hoped P90X would bring. I feel stronger an dI could see this when I rode over the weekend....but I want a better "look"

Day 80: Denver's Back! (& Biceps too!)

Well, it was another struggle with motivation.

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Day 79: Denver's Plyo Home Stretch!

After struggling through yesterdays workout (the dreaded two-speed twitch torture push-ups) I got back on track and celebrated inauguration day with an almost perfect workout (2 short pauses as opposed to my usual 4 or 5) and a good heart rate!

I am feeling a weird pain in my knee the last two days. It feels better as I am typing this, but I am a bit concerned that I have hurt myself somehow. You know you're old (or young!) when you can't remember hurting yourself!

I almost fell down doing the Swing Kicks today. I don't have a stool, so I use a high backed chair (up to my waist) that I face away from me and try to match the height of the chairback. This has never been a problem, until today when I lost my concentration and completely caught the "back" and basically kicked the chair over. Like the trooper I am, though, I finished the set and even did a few extra to make up for the missed swing kicks!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 78: Denver Tries and TRI's Again!

Well, whadya know! I had one left in me!

My triceps are not exactly noticeable on P90X body, version 2.0 (er, I am not a software programmer, but I'm counting my two failed starts and stops between full programs as 1.5 and 1.7!)

What I notice is that I used to be able to do the Side-Tri-Rises without feeling them at all. In fact, I used to wonder what the point of them were. Now I can barely get through the 20. I wonder if my arms developing have something to do with it. Whatever the case, I feel these a lot more than I used to.

The Two-Speed Twitch Push-ups pretty much destroy the workout for me!

Anyway:

Keep Bringing It!

Day 78 - Dallas completes Chest, Shoulders and Tris

I really felt like I brought it. I added some weight, impved most of my push up counts...but I didn't have the after workout swell/burn. My legs are still toast from Fri/Sat/Sun.

I like this week. No doubles. You finish an excerice and then you are done with it.

I need to figure out how to start round two withthe software we are using. Right now it is a one and done.

Dallas rides again

I got in a 21 mile mountain bike ride today. Great ride.

Sent from my iPhone

Day 77: Denver Stretches and...

and nothing else. I swore I wrote on here that I was going to possibly do something else. Plans changed and I continue to back into the finish line! Oh, well. This week is key to finishing strong, so it's time to...

Keep Bringing It!

Day 77 - Dallas Stretches

Great stretch today.  After a double yesterday and two days in a row of leg workouts....I needed a hamstring stretch.

Day 76 - Dallas rides

Well it was really windy today.  The plan was for 40 miles today on my road bike.  I only got 33 in.  Wind was just beating me down.  Burned 1450 calories.

It felt great to get back on the bike.  I'm pretty tight right now.  I'll be sore for a day or two.

Saturday, January 17, 2009

Day 76: Denver's Kenpo Komeback

Stretchin' the titles, It's going to be a rough last 14 days for wordsmithing!

Anyway, I did Kenpo today and felt good to get a good workout it. I had been slacking since Wednesday and I wanted to get it back on track. I'm looking forward to the last Full week of resistance and then the recovery week.

I burned 621 calories although I only hit 161 for maximum heart rate today. I did get interrupted, which was a problem because it happened at the 25 minute mark, which didn't let me build any momentum before the blocks. Even with the exaggerated Horse Stance, I never got my heart rate back up again.

I may do an extra workout tomorrow to make up for the "Slacker" week! Stay tuned!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 76 - Dallas gets Kicking with Kenpo

Got up at 7 today...slept in a little.  Good workout.  I could be loud today (family is out of town).

I also did a Fit Test on my Polar today - Est Vo2 came up 55 (up from 51 at the start).  Always a good sign of overall fitness.

Hit sub 160 today - 159.5 ( 1/ 2 pound counts)  Burned 486 cals during Kenpo (I never burn as much as Denver)

I'll be riding later today.  I'll post result from that as well.  My guess is 2k cal burned

Day 75 - Dallas - Legs/Back

I waited till the evening to do this one.  I got up there all excited to do legs....then I realized I had to do Pull-ups....I have no clue how I missed that.

Here are some numbers:
Rev Grip - 12 both sets (no chair)
Wide Frt - 8 no chair / 2 NC and 7 chair - I guess I used too much on the Rev
Close Grip - 9 nc / 8 nc
Switch Grip - 12 nc / 9 nc and 3 chair

Day 75: Denver's Legs & Back to Working hard!

In Progress....

Day 74: Denver Skipped Yoga!

Yeah, I skipped it. Motivation is week and had a really long day at work. I'll finish strong, just have to get through this motivation dry spell!

I'll Keep Bringing It!

Thursday, January 15, 2009

Day 74 - Dallas get Yoga done

I was really into the first half.  Then my motivation dropped quickly.  I got it back for Yoga belly, but it just wanted my day.

I did hit my lowest weight today.  160.5  We'll see if I can keep it going down.

Day 73 - Dallas does Shoulders and Arms

I liked this day.  It went well.  I pushed up the weights a bit on most of the exercises.

Ab Ripper went ok.  Better than Monday (I wasn't about to puke).

I thought I had posted this already so I can't really remember the exact workout and what went well

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Day 72: Denver's Pushin' Play for Plyo!

How about that, another alliteration combination I hadn't thought of!

Great workout. It was a solid calorie burner, and I agree with Dallas, you feel like you are working out for sure.

I did have to pause at before the second Jump Squats again, but I still brought it!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 72 - Dallas gets through Plyo

I'm really digging the Plyo workout.  Something about it I really like.  I look forward to it.  I guess it is what I think a workout should feel like.  Work hard, sweat and feel like you burned some fat.

My weight went back down from the weekend.  I still have not hit sub 160 or sub 20% BF

Monday, January 12, 2009

Day 71: Denver Brings it for Chest & Arms

Yeah, baby!

I brought it big time today. I love the alternating workouts during this last phase. Today I was on fire with the Push-Ups and the Pull-Ups! It is amazing to me that I don't hate this workout as much as I use to and I loathe my favorite (resistance) workout: Legs & Back. Whatever the reason, I am happy with at least the fact that I enjoy this workout.

I did 35 Push-Ups, 19 Wide Pull-Ups, 20 Military Push-Ups, 25 Reverse Grip Chin Ups, 25Wide Fly Push-Ups, 16 Closed Grip Pull-Ups, 16 Decline Push-Ups, 17 Diamond Push-Ups and 16 Dive-Bomber Push-Ups. And I did the same for the second rep for all of them! How do you like them apples!

(Admittedly, these numbers aren't that impressive. What is impressive (to me!) is that I matched the first rep totals on my second set.)

My Heavy Pants and Lawnmowers remained at 45 lbs. I did 15 reps by the second set as opposed to 12, so I guess it is time to do the 50 lbs on those. My Back Flys felt good with 25 lbs, which is an improvement.

I can't say I brought it as much during the Ab Ripper X, but it was good enough.

Anyway, I am happy with my strength and conditioning. Not as happy with my weight this time around. Had pizza today, which didn't help. Sigh.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 70: Denver Did Not Stretch

Whoops!

Day 71 - Dallas does last Chest / Back

Last space on my form...I guess this was the last time I'll do this workout for trip one around P90X.

This morning I gagged on my toothpaste and so far this morning I've had the sick feeling in my stomach.  Ab Ripper was tough with this feeling.....

I got through it

This week my pull ups dropped a little, but my push ups went up.

Sunday, January 11, 2009

Day 70 - Dallas gets his Stretch on

Two weeks in a row I found time to Stretch.  I had a partner this morning.  My daughter (who makes me feel very stiff) joined me.

Great stretch.  I say it every week.....I needed this.

20 days to go!!!

Day 69 - Dallas finally gets Kenpo done

Took me all day Sat to get this done.  I had a few interruptions, but I got it done.  I too love this workout.

I think I lose my weight during the week, gain a pound or two back during the weekend and then lose again the following week

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Day 69: Krazy Kenpo Kicks it Up!

If I'm ever feeling like I'm not into these workouts, Kenpo comes around and wakes me back up. Awesome workout as usual.

I haven't gotten around to posting my stats as I have been procrastinating. This is a busy time of year, so I'm hoping to get some time tomorrow or on Monday. I'll check in later!

Keep Bringing It!

Friday, January 9, 2009

Day 68: Denver Legs It Out!

Day 68 - Dallas - Legs/Back

I worked out early....but posted late.

Good workout today.  Felt a whole lot better not having done a huge leg workout the day before.

Thursday, January 8, 2009

Day 67: Denver's Yoga Delay

I'm trying to get motivated. I'll do it before I go to bed, but I'm slammed with a project right now! You know how I hate to miss Yoga!

Dallas- Your measurements look pretty good. I do think you are gaining muscle based on what you reported. You have lost 7 pounds, and your waist has lost almost 2 inches. I think you have to account for the muscle.

I'll update more tomorrow!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 67 - Dallas and Yoga

It was an ok workout today.  The first half I think I just got through.  Once the balance poses started I was back at it and pushing it hard.

Yoga Belly went well today.

My weight went up a pound, but my BF dropped to 21%.

I thought my all time low was 21.....but it was 20.  I was really close to breaking the 20 barrier.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Dallas - Day 66 Measurements

Ok I got around to getting the tape out

Chest - Start - 40 / Day 30 - 39.5 / Day 66 - 40.25 - I think I lost fat and now gained muscle
Waist (At Belly Button) - Start - 37.25  / Day 30 - 36.5 / Day 66 - 35.5 = Lost 1.75"
Thighs - Start - 22.25 / Day 30 - 22 / Day 60 - 22 - No change here - Didn't expect change here
Arms - Start - 14R & 13.5L / Day 30 and Day 60 - 13.75 Both - I'm surprised here, thought I would increase these.

Weight and (BF)
Start -  168.5 (24%) / Day 30 - 165.5 (22%) / Day 66 - 161 (22%)

Thoughts -
It must come down to food.  I ate well other than two days really.  I find it VERY hard to believe that the only way to drop as much weight as I want is to eat a certain way.  I'm burning a ton of calories (and burned a whole lot more when I was riding 3x a week (2,000 avg burn per day)....and not losing much weight.  I think something else is going on in my body.

I'm hoping to break the 160 mark and the 20% mark this week.  I was glad to see the inches come off my waist.  This week I went from Monday at 164.5 to today at 161.  My body fat got as low as 21 so far....I really want this to come down.  The weight wouldn't bother me if the BF% was in the 12-15 range.

Day 66: Denver learns to count with Back & Biceps!

Whoops!

I think I got the Route 66 song in my head, so I totally messed up the daily count. It even says it right in the XtremeFit Tracker!

Anyway, I crushed it today. My arms were feeling it and I was able to match or exceed most of my previous results. I still get burned out on the "In and Out Hammer Curls." I tried doing 30 lbs again this time and failed at 6 reps. That of course ruined any chance of trying to start at 30 lbs for the Strip-Set Curls. I feel the last two weights are too light, but I can't do the 30 lbs.

Good to see Dallas is getting some results. I'm determined to make a great final push here. Of course if some tempting food comes my way, that will be the real test!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 66 - Dallas - Swells with Back and Biceps

Are we on day 66 or 67? Denver said Tuesday was 66....I'll look again tonight.

I pushed it hard today. My arms felt like they had grown 5 inches arounbd after this workout.

Abs I paused a bit throughout. Still did it all and gave 100% effort...but took some breaks along the way.

Still haven't measured....I WILL do it tonight....won't be day 60 numbers..but it will be close. This past weekend I was adding some lights to my garage and wearing jean shorts (it was 80 - Sunday was 40)....anyway my jean shorts were falling down...so I must be doing something right. It may not look like anything has changed...but it has. I guess I expected 15% Body Fat at day 60 and sub 160 lbs. Today I was at 161 (I'm back to were I was before X-Mas - With 21% BF (also my all time low). I hope to keep this trend up. If I can get to sub 160 by Monday with sub 20% BF....it will give me the motivation to keep pushing play when this is over....go for round 2. Maybe in round 2 I can hit my goals I set for round 1. I may have to modify the workout a bit. For the second half of round 2 I will be riding more....burning 1,000-2,500 calories a ride. I may not be able to do both on those days. WE;ll see

Keep pushing play....see you tomorrow...whatever DAY that happens to be.

Denver Gettin' his Plyo Kicks on Day 66! (er, 65!)

Yeah, it should have been a Kenpo day! Sigh. Tony obviously didn't think of those of us struggling to come up with catchy Blog entry titles! (Completely irrelevant now that Dallas has pointed out my counting error. Oh, well. I was never one for math!)

Plyo was good, except that I got interrupted and then all of a sudden I was praying to the porcelin gods. I don't think I ate enough or drank enough fluids today. I didn't have anything in me to expel, but it was an uncomfortable experience.

The phone "breaks" meant that I had another wind when I started up again. One call was perfect- right before the second "Mary Catherines!"

My Polar F11 says that I burned 997 calories. I should have kept it going during the cool down and maybe get an even 1000!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 65 - Dallas - Plyo

I did not want to get up today.  I did and it was worth it.  I love Plyo.  It gets me going.  If I'm not sweating I don't feel like I'm working out and doing something to work my body.  I sweat during Plyo.

I was a little congested so breathing was hard at times.

Great start to the day.

I still haven't measured.....I will.

Monday, January 5, 2009

Day 64 - Dallas finishes Chest, Shoulders and Tris

I still haven't gotten the darn tape out to measure up or out.....

Today was good. I tired to push the weight up 5 lbs across, but was mistaken to think I could actually lift 5 extra for each exercise. I kept it for 1/2 of them.

The Two-Twitch are killer, same with the pour flys, and the......the whole thing is pretty killer.

I got through abs and then actually pushed out 20 more standard push ups....I wanted that pumped feel when I was having my breakfast.... Very glad I didn't have to do a pull up today.

I need to find a plate I can use on the carpet....I want to try the slide method and not only the modified version.

The Food Network and Other Evils!

I ate pasta last night and I gained 2 pounds! Yes, I had sausage, but I skipped the bread.

I love the Food Network. After years of being indifferent about how the food got on my pkate, I am now obsessed with watching Bobby Flay and Rachael Ray create fabulous food. It really isn't a good idea to watch this channel all the time because of the fact that you start looking at your meal replacement bar or the rice cake with peanut butter and start thinking, "What would Paula Deen think?"

I know that Dallas is struggling with the weight loss part of the program. I was very nervous about the results my first time around because I was convinved that I would not be able to change my eating habits. I was partially correct. I didn't follow the diet completely, but I denied myself going out to eat a lot or ordering in. I ate rice cakes and peanut butter (Sorry Paula!) for breakfast or maybe some Turkey Bacon. I had Turkey jerky for snacks, I ate a peanut butter on whole wheat bread for lunch and usually had some stir fry or a somewhat healthy dinner. My results were pretty good with that diet.

This time around, it has been a gastronomical nightmare! Not even considering the fact that Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are smack dab in the middle of this session (the gifts that keeps on giving: Leftovers!) I haven't had the discipline to not eat the junk this time around. I've slipped and had chips, candy bars, large servings. I just don't have the motivation to deprive myself of the foods I like.

Part of my lack of motivation is the fact that I am planning on continuing P90X after I am done with this 90 days. I might take a week off, but not the month I took off last time. It killed me starting again. Bottom line: I'm not willing to give up all the food I like forever (at least until the doctor tells me I don't have a choice!) so I have to figure out how to stay in shape while eating only a little differently than I have in the past. I'm all for getting healthy. I'm just not convinced that there is only one way to do so.

So we are down to 35 days. I am thinking about trying to follow the diet religiously for the home stretch. We'll see how long this lasts, but I think I can do it. As Tony would say: "Heck, you can do anything for 3(5) seconds (days!)

Day 64: Denver FEELS it in Chest, Shoulders & Tris!

I like how this last phase alternates the workouts each week. That "Muscle Confusion" theory seems to apply here.

I was able to do most of these exercises pretty well, except of course the "Two-Twitch Speed Push-Ups" which absolutely kill me every time. I can do the first set of 4 fast/3 slow. Then I barely get through the second set. I do the fast part of rep number 3 and I'm done. I have no idea what Tony means when he says "do 8 or 9 or 10!" He can't be counting each push-up, but even on the video it seems like they do maybe 5 sets. Who knows!

I increased my weights for several exercises and though I still struggle with "Pour Flys" I am feeling much stronger!

Ab Ripper was interrupted again, but it was pretty good. I agree with Dallas, that the first part of Ab Ripper X is much more leg & hip intensive than it is abs.

Anyway, I'll be back with another post where I talk about my measurements and food!

Day 63: Denver Back on Track with X Stretch!

I got up this morning, did a guided meditation and then followed up with the X Stretch. It felt great, as I was very tight having missed Yoga this week.

Like I said early on in this blog, I don't necessarily "like working out", but I do "Like Having worked out!"

Anyway it's a dreary, cold day here in Denver, so I'm happy to be inside.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 63 - Dallas finally gets to X-Stretch

I did it....I finally found time on Sunday to X-Stretch.  I needed it too.

I was pretty tight this past week, back, shoulders, chest.  This opened me up a lot.

Day 62: Kickin' it with Kenpo Denver Style

With that title, I may have hit my creative peak!

Great workout. Since the recovery week was last week and the weak work this week, Fridays workout was rough and now I'm feeling it. Kenpo was a good remedy, but I am looking forward to stretching on Sunday and then bringing it next week to make up for my lack of focus this week.

As for what to do afterwards, I think the problem is that if you take several weeks off you feel like you are back at sqaure one. I'm not sure what the best answer is, but the longer you go between sessions, the worse it is starting up again. I think Dallas will have good results when it is all said and done.

Keep Bringing It!

Day 62 - Dallas punches Kenpo

I can't think of anything cool to say in the titles any more.

Great day today.  I'm really sore from my ride....it has been a long time since I spent 3 hrs on a bike.  So the warm up killed me.

With Warm up and cool down my avg HR was 141.  Max of 163.  I can't get my HR up as high as I want it to get.

I'm already trying to figure out how to build a workout with these discs after my 90 days are up.  I know I won't go back to back, but maybe 30 days off then ramp it up again.

I'm happy with the increase in strength, but the weight loss, Body Fat reduction....I'm not seeing it.  I'll post my measurements later today.

Day 61: Denver Recovers for LEGS and BACK

I finally made it through a workout again.

I don't know why I am procrastinating this week. I'll think about it and tell you tomorrow! ;-)

Seriously, I dread this Friday workout. The first exercise kills me and it's pretty much painful exercise after painful exercise (except a few easier ones sprinkled in). They don't even seem like they should be that difficult. I think it might be that I am using too much weight, but I can't bring myself to drop down a weight since I've been doing it the whole program. How's taht for a conundrum!

This week has been about as much fun as a trip to the dentist.

After not bringing it on Monday, hurting myself on Wednesday, lifting heavy machinery on Thursday and ending up not doing Yoga, I was feeling pretty down this week. My pictures and stats are not great. The holiday food has gotten to me. I had pretty good success last year, but I did it at the start of the new year and there were no major holidays to screw up the diet.

I think I'll have a better week next week. At least it's Kenpo tomorrow!

Keep Bringing It!

(Congrats to Dallas on getting some pull-ups done! If that's not progress, I don't know what is!)

Day 61 - Dallas pushes through Legs/Back

After yesterday 3 hr ride....I'm toast.

I made it through the Legs/Back / Ab Ripper - But for the first time ever I had to pull my self up from the Double Leg Squats.....I normally can go for extra time, but today 1/2 way through I had to take a 5 sec break and then return.

Success -
10 Rev Pull ups - Followed by 7 in the 2nd round
3 Close Grip before having to get the chair (both rounds)
8 Switch Grip (4 the 2nd time around)

AB Ripper - The first half is hip/legs - I paused between each exercise until after the scissors.  After the scissors it is more of an Ab workout and I was fine...but the first half was tough today.

I took pictures last night....I'm going to have my wife look at them...I don't see a big change....she seems to think there is.

I'll get my measurements up soon.

Day 60: Denver Moves Treadmill Up 2 Flights of Stairs! (And maybe does Yoga!)

Probably not the smartest of moves with a still aching neck. I helped move a heavy treadmill from the basement to the second floor today. I'm spent. But with my neck hurting, I will be doing some late night Yoga!

I'm hoping that this next week will be invigorating.

Dallas- Don't be too discouraged. The diet might have had more of an impact. I am sure you'll notice a difference in your arms and chest. As for the weight, well, think about the fact that your weight might be turning into muscle? What's the body fat at?

You'll see results!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 59: Denver Tweaks Neck Doing Shoulders & Arms

So much for being reinvigorated this week. I tweaked something in my neck/upper shoulder during the warmup and then I aggravated it pushing my weights up to 30 pounds. It was good to successfully do the weight, but I couldn't finish the workout due to the pain.

Not what I wanted before Pictures tomorrow!

Keep Bringing It!

Day 60 - Dallas bikes

Woke up this morning and rode 38 miles on a mountain bike in the New Rear's Ride.  Burned 2200 calories.  I'm not sure if I will be doing Yoga today.  We'll see.  I'm pretty beat.

I guess I need to take some photos today.  Weight has gone up....so far I've only lost 4.5 lbs since starting this.  60 days to lose 4.5 lbs.  Not what I expected.  I figured by now I would be down 10 and working on the last 4-5 during that last 30 days.

I'll update with my stats later.
